DAYS KILIMANJARO CLIMB
Kilimanjaro
is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest extinct
volcanoes. It can be climbed at any time except in April and May
during the long rains. January to March and August to October
are the best climbing seasons. We use the Marangu route, which
is the easiest, and the most accessible.
(A) MARANGU ROUTE
Day1: Nairobi-Moshi
Arrive Namanga border town at 10.00hrs continue to Arusha for
lunch after immigration formalities. Drive to Moshi where afternoon
is spent organizing climbing gear. Dinner and overnight at Spring
lands Hotel/Moshi.
Day
2: Moshi - Mandara Hut
After breakfast, drive 45 kms to Marangu gate, an altitude of
1,860m. Walk 9 kms to Mandara hut, 2,744md (9,000ft) throught
dense semi-tropical rain forest, for your first overnight at the
hut.
Day 3: Mandara - Horombo
Start early morning for a ten hours walk towards Horombo. The
landscape becomes more rugged and rocky but superb, with both
Mawenzi and Kibo peaks in view. You spend your second night at
the mountain at Horombo hut, an altitude of 3,761m (12,335ft).
Day
4: Horombo - Kibo Hut
Take a tiring 13km walk which takes 6hrs to Kibo hut 4,732m (15,520ft)
above the sea level. Spectacular mountain vegetation like giant
cactus, ground well and lobelia appear. Meals and overnight at
the hut.
Day
5: Kibo - Uhuru Peak - Horombo Hut
The final attempt to the summit is made in the early hours of
the morning at 2.00 am. It takes about hours to climb the steepest
and most difficult part of the route to Oilman's Point (5,681
m) 18,630 ft. From Oilman's it takes 1&half and 2 hours to
Uhuru peak, 5,896m (19,34ft). Descend to Horombo for dinner and
overnight.
Day 6: Horombo - Moshi
Descent is rapid. After breakfast, walk down to Marangu gate for
transfer to Moshi. Overnight at Moshi. Springlands Hotel.
Day 7: Moshi-Nairobi
After breakfast, drive to Arusha for lunch, then to Nairobi via
Namanga border town, arriving early in the evening.
Please note: On this itinerary clients
may be accommodated at suitable hotels in Arusha. Accommodation
may also be up graded at extra cost.
3 DAYS NGORONGORO/L. MANYARA
Day 1: Nairobi - Lake Manyara
Arrive Namanga border town at 10.00 hrs. After immigration formalities,
drive to Arusha for lunch. Proceed to Lake Manyara National Park
on the base of the Great Rift Valley. This small park contains
five distinct vegetation zone, thus supporting large variety of
birds and animals. The park is also famous for its tree climbing
lions, and its large flock of flamingos. Dinner and overnight
at Lake Manyara Hotel or campsite.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, leave Manyara for Ngorongoro crater. Taking a
picnic lunch with you, descend 2,000 ft. (640 m) into the crater
floor for game viewing. Break for lunch at Ngoitoktok spring picnic
site. It will be an unforgettable experience under the sun. All
the "big five" Black maned Lions, Rhinos, Elephants,
Buffaloes and Leopards can be seen. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro
wildlife lodge or campsite.
Day
3: Ngorongoro Nairobi
After breakfast, drive to Arusha for lunch and afterwards to Nairobi
via Namanga border town, arriving early in the evening.
